Project OverviewNetd@ys Europe is an annual initiative of the European Commission to promote the use of new media in the areas of education and culture and to provide the participants with the opportunity to develop the skills to acquire and to exchange information on a range of themes. The initiative culminates in a showcase week in November with online and offline events all around Europe and beyond. In 2002, Netd@ys concentrated on Image. The topic of our project was animation. The participating group consisted of 23 students aged 9-10 and their homeroom teacher. The project was awarded the official Netd@ays label. The students first learned about making animation and they wrote about their favourite animated TV shows or movies. We took a look into creating cartoons and puppet animations. The next step was making short animation clips with a digital camera and a computer. For a more detailed description on the process, see the "Making of" section. Visitors were able to vote for their favourite one during the international event week (18 -23 Nov 2002). The finished animation clips and the poll results are available on the "Animations" page. The students also had a chance to e-mail questions to an awarded animation professional (our international partner), the executive producer of "The Simpsons". The students' questions and Al Jean's answers are posted on the "Q&A" page. In the national launch event on 18 November in Oulu, "Moving Images" was given the award for the best Finnish Netd@ys project of 2002, alongside the projects by Mankkaa School and Kokkola Vocational Institute. |
